Editorial & Corrections Policy

How content gets written, sourced and fixed.

Rule one: primary sources or silence. Rates and thresholds are taken from gov.uk, HMRC manuals, legislation.gov.uk, gov.scot, revenue.scot and gov.wales — not from other people’s blogs. Where only secondary sources exist, the page says so. Where we could not verify a claim at all, we publish that fact rather than the claim.

Dating

Every page carries a real last-verified date driven by content changes — not a script that stamps “updated today” on stale pages. The footer date is the date of the site-wide rates verification.

Corrections

When we get something wrong we fix the page and leave a dated note on it saying what changed. Serious errors get flagged on the affected calculators too. Report anything via the contact page — corrections are answered first.

AI & human review

Drafting uses modern tools; every published number is human-verified against its primary source, and the verification trail (source name + date) is printed on the page. Nothing is published that hasn’t been checked against the document it cites.

Monetisation & independence

Advertising and clearly-disclosed referral links may fund the site. Advertisers and affiliate programs have no influence over any figure or ranking, and no page will recommend a product we wouldn’t use for the job it’s named for.
